This book is recommended as part of the year 2 Charlotte Mason curriculum on AmblesideOnline. Out of the many books we’ve read for School this year my son (7) thought this one of the best. We both enjoyed it and learned a little history too.

The Little Duke edition by Charlotte Mary Yonge Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a wonderful book! My 8 year old son and I are reading this together and he is very engaged even though the language harks back to an earlier age. Would definitely recommend this book!
Good book to learn more about our British History but a bit monotonous at times. The kids acted it out while I was reading it to them . We took turns reading it and at some point they struggled with what was going on as they are ten and eight but overall, it was ok. Read it for AO curriculum.
Loved this book. At first it started out a bit slowly, and I didn't really know if I was going to like it, but the story evolves very quickly and hooks you. I liked the fact that there were great morals to learn from the way the Duke was treated, and the way he learned to rule fairly and kindly. I read this on kindle, but will be purchasing to keep for my grandsons.
Well, the story stands on its own. It appears to be scanned from an original book and then formatted again for printing. There are some typos here and there which made me think it was not proofread first. I like the imitation covering.
The narrator is this edition is excellent. While we utilize Librivox often, The Little Duke chapters are hit or miss for good narrators. Worth the price. I do wish the chapters were separated better. There are four tracks but twelve chapters.
This was required reading for us when I was in fourth grade and I find that I enjoyed it even more this time around. It recreates medieval life through the eyes of a brave boy and describes the making of a true leader who, even as a child, impresses his father's followers as the true heir to the dukedom. Written many, many decades ago, The Little Duke is a literary recreation of historical events that far surpasses the grist churned out by today's "historical fiction" mill.
Very nice story and shows the transformation of the Little Duke to a knightly, gracious leader. Themes of forgiveness, loyalty, forbearance, not taking vengeance throughout. Yesterday's Classics is the best publisher!!
